In Digital Foundry's testing, it didn't really seem to do anything if your game is installed on an SSD. It can't hurt, though. It's not a GOG-specific issue; the problem was the hard drive being overwhelmed by lots of requests, forcing BG3 to wait. Assuming Windows, use Task Manager to check if the drive is hitting 100%. If so, you can use Disk Activity in the Resource Monitor to identify which applications are contributing. Some motherboards have a built-in video port as well. Its a common mistake to make. But back on subject I have a GTX 1060 card and my models are slow to load at time as well.
