Heavy armor warlock bg3

Multiclassing does not grant heavy armor proficiency. Not sure if this is a bug or not but it is certainly strange. I just hit level 4 with one of my party members and I decided to multiclass into paladin. I went to equip the enchanted heavy armor I found lying around and got a message that they weren't proficient.
