A mixture of Borax, sugar and a tiny bit of water worked wonders. Because I have cats, I used the small disposable glad containers with holes poked around the sides (just above the mixture) and in the lid just big enough for the ants to get in and get out. The ants take it back to the colony and wiped them all out in just a couple days.
